Chef Gil Zentgraf is a native of Baltimore, Md. with a family history of great food. His great-grandparents operated an Inn at Baltimore's Cross Street Marketplace, during the 19th century. His grandparents owned and operated seafood restaurants in that port city from the 1930's through the 60's. His Mother baked and decorated cakes for special events in Baltimore. And now, he is the Chef/Owner of About You Catering and Catering at The Lafayette in Stanardsville, VA.(chefgil@aboutyoucatering.com )
Gil is a Navy veteran who served as an Electronics Technician during the Vietnam Era. He was working for General Electric when he nearly lost an argument with 15,000 Volts! At that time, he felt that a career change was in order. He enrolled at the Baltimore International Culinary Arts Institute, and graduated 2nd in his class in 1987.
Gil has worked for Restaurants, Pubs, Hotels and Catering Services throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland. He moved to Virginia to take over as Catering Chef at The Lafayette Inn in 2005, later becoming the Executive Chef. During the first year of his tenure, the Inn was awarded Restaurant of the Year by the Virginia Food and Wine Society. He has also been featured as Chef of the Month on the Chef2Chef Culinary Forum, and has been recognized by the March of Dimes for his continuing participation in their Signature Chef Auction.

In addition to operating a successful catering service, Gil is currently working on a cookbook featuring Southern Fusion Cuisine, adapting typical Southern ingredients such as yams, cornmeal, and black eyed peas to dishes from other World Cuisines.
